Over 68 people report sickness after eating at the Brevard, NC McDonalds which was shut down on Thursday, August 2nd

Aug 2, 2018

A number of people have reported vomiting and diarrhea soon after dining at a McDonald's restaurant located on Asheville Hwy in Brevard, North Carolina. We received over 59 reports citing over 77 people sick, as of August 7th

Several other public platforms and forums have allowed Brevard community members to collectively share their experiences at the local McDonald's; connecting with and warning others of their restaurant, hospital, emergency room and health department encounters. One public post on Facebook about the incident received over 125 comments.

The McDonald's restaurant located on Asheville Highway closed Thursday, Aug 2nd afternoon for cleaning, and the following statement was issued on behalf of the Brevard McDonald's:

"Due to reports of an illness outbreak in our community, and out of an abundance of caution, we voluntarily closed this restaurant. We expect to reopen on Friday. McDonald's is deeply committed to the health and well-being of our employees and customers. We are taking proactive measures and supporting the health department as they look into this issue. – Teresa Edwards, McDonald’s Owner-Operator, Brevard, NC."
