Jul 18, 2024

Iwaspoisoned.com presented at the National Environmental Health Association's (NEHA) 87th Annual Educational Conference & Exhibition on July 15th, 2024. Our presentation, titled “Foodborne Illness and Crowdsourced Data: Opportunities, Challenges, and an Introduction to Iwaspoisoned.com,” spoke about the critical role of crowdsourced data in public health. NEHA supports over 6,000 members by offering educational opportunities and fostering professional growth. The 2024 NEHA Annual Educational Conference & Exhibition (AEC) was held in Pittsburgh, PA. It's theme was "New Horizons: Building Bridges to Shape the Environmental Health Future." This year's theme encompassed innovative topics and presentations like U.S. heat waves, data modernization, professional burn-out, and the use of artificial intelligence in environmental health, alongside enduring concerns such as food safety and water quality.

The mission of the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) is to "build, sustain, and empower an effective environmental health workforce." This significant annual gathering by NEHA, a foundational body established in 1937 in California, serves as a crucial platform for professionals from environmental health to public safety sectors. It facilitates the exchange of ideas, explores challenges, and discovers solutions to enhance public health. The conference offered over 250 education sessions spannning these subjects and more. NEHA's annual meeting serves as a comprehensive hub for continuing education, allowing attendees to easily track and earn credits throughout the event. This year’s AEC had an abundant amount of networking opportunities—we had a great time connecting with peers and experts in the field! We also had a wonderufl time presenting on how crowdsourced data can be a pivotal tool in predicting, tracking, and identifying foodborne illnesses. Our participation in this event highlights our ongoing commitment to public health.

Our founder expressed enthusiasm about our alignment with the conference’s goals, stating, "We were honored to participate in an event that so closely aligns with our mission of ensuring community safety and health. The leadership of NEHA, particularly David Dyjack, who is a friend and supporter, plays a vital role in safeguarding our communities and enriching our lives. It’s a privilege to reconnect and work alongside such committed professionals.”
